Marcus bought a camper van for one big road trip. Then it sat on his driveway for 11 months. He listed it on WeShare. Three weeks later, he'd earned enough to pay for the trip twice over.

The listing

"I spent about an hour on it," Marcus says. "I cleaned the van, shot photos on a Sunday morning when the light was good, and wrote a description like I was telling a mate what it was like to sleep in it."

He set a daily rate of £95, offered a slight discount for week-long bookings, and listed availability for every weekend he wasn't planning to use it.

The bookings

His first enquiry came in two days after listing. By the end of his first month, he'd had three separate bookings — a couple heading to Scotland, a family doing a coastal road trip, and a solo traveller exploring Wales.

"The communication was the part I was most worried about," he admits. "But everyone was respectful. Clear about timing. And they all left the van cleaner than I expected."

The lesson

The asset was already paid for. The road trip cost was already written off. Everything WeShare earned him was money from something that was otherwise depreciating in his driveway.

"I wish I'd done it sooner. It just needed to be in use."
